Cuisine: Italian
Price Point: Mains from $20 - $35+

The Moda Hotel is not all that it seems. Inside it's hiding the best-kept secret in town, Cibo Trattoria.

Serving Italian fare made lovingly from fairtrade, local ingredients and authentic cooking methods, every dish is prepared with a 'slow food' philosophy that ensures intense flavours and an all-round exclusive dining experience. In contrast, the interior sparkles with modernity that's only matched by their meticulous glass and silverware.

Begin your Italian feast with some greens with sweet dried fig and a tangy balsamic vinaigrette. Tease the appetite with some pork and beef meatballs or a torched marinated mackerel that comes with a cheeky pickled shallot. For something you won't find anywhere else, try the parmesan souffle that'll have you with your head in the clouds.

For mains, try those famous Italian classics with a decadent twist. Their tagliatelle al la bolognese is made with a rich duck, beef and pork ragu and their vegetarian gnocchi comes with crunchy asparagus and a sweet shallot marmalde. There's also a breaded cauliflower dish that's suitable for vegetarians, as well as duck breast, sea bass and steak dishes that are elevated by their exquisite, slow-cooked sauces and plant-based accompaniments.

I could not recommend this place enough! Bethany welcomed us as soon as we went through the door. She had our reso details and we got a table right away. Bethany also gave us amazing suggestions for appetizers (We had the Polpette with bread), if you go, try these, you'll love them! As for the Main Courses, my husband had the Bistecca (30- day dry-aged beef rib-eye) and I had the mushroom lasagna. These two dishes were SUPERB. The steak was tender, and full of flavor, and my lasagna was just perfect. Last but not least, since we indulging and it was snowing outside, we decided to stay a little bit longer and order dessert. Bethany, nailed it once again! We had the Chocolate Nemesis - oh my my what a delicious slice of heaven!
Anyhow, I would recommend CIBO 100%, as for Bethany, she got 5 stars, no no, let's give her 6 stars!

Our dinner at Cibo was amazing from start to finish! We were seated right away, the drinks and food were incredible, and the service was fantastic. The servers took care of us. Our drinks took longer than normal so the bar manager didn’t charge us for them. That was such a kind gesture and very unexpected, especially since we already received a discount on the food. We had a wonderful evening and will definitely be returning to Cibo. First Table made it easy to try a new restaurant that we wouldn’t normally choose.

Excellent food and even better service - everything was thoughtfully plated and they went out of their way to ensure we had a positive first experience. We were a little concerned when we arrived and the restaurant was empty, however it was actually very nice to have the service staff’s full attention! We’ll definitely be coming back :)

I really enjoyed my experience at Cibo Trattoria. We were seated in a comfortable corner of the restaurant. They had great ambiance created with low lighting and great music choices (jazz, blues & R&B). It was quiet for a Wednesday night - which we enjoyed for ease of conversation. The food was presented beautifully and tasted great.

Amazing food, fresh pasta made in house was excellent and the lemon chicken was excellent. The absolute pinnacle though was the tiramisu - a definite must try!!

I went on a Thursday night to celebrate my partner's birthday. There were terrible SkyTrain delays which made us 30 minutes late for our booking but the manager was kind enough to honour the first table discount anyways. It's a small cozy place but the ambience was nice. There was soft music playing the whole night. The appies were definitely the best part of the meal. The mackerel was so unique and fresh while the meatballs were so savoury and rich (with golden raisin ricotta!). The entrees didn't quite match up with the appies as both the sea bass and bolognese were quite salty. But the panna cotta here is definitely the best I've ever had! Tangy passionfruit curd with creamy vanilla panna cotta. It was a good experience and I would come back for the appies and desserts.

As with most FT experiences, the restaurant was fairly empty when we were there so that was kinda nice. Downside is that the only person working that time was not the most attentive, so despite being one of only 2 tables, it took super long to get the server's attention for orders or getting the check. Can't blame her though, appears to be only 1 or 2 people doing everything including working the bar, serving and cleaning at the same time.

Food was above average. I ordered the Spaghetti Vongole, which was a little too salty for my girlfriend and I, but otherwise tasted decent. The Bistecka was also kinda meh, but for half price it was okay.

Not sure I would return, but it wasn't too bad of an experience. Probably wouldn't come back at full price.

First time using First Table & had a very enjoyable meal at a restaurant that none of us had tried before. Very nice atmosphere in the establishment, definitely an intimate type venue. It was nice to be able to talk to people without having to yell across the table like a lot of places in Vancouver! The food was excellent & the maitre d' was a character & a half! It looked like there were only two people working the night we were in so had to wait awhile when arriving before someone noticed we were there, same with trying to get the waiter's attention during the meal and to clear the table for the bill. One other thing we thought was a little odd was that when ordering the steak we were not asked how we liked it cooked.
